February 2009                                                                                              It seems as though I just left Hou on my way to NYC for my fashion fix Fall Fashion Week, this year we got a double dose with BET's Rip the Runway the day after fashion week was over. The week and a half was swift & exuberant all at the same time. My fashion week experience this year was on of highs and lows due to the heavy effects of the economy in NYC. The  goody bags were every skim, Fashion week seems to be going though it's own motions, McDonald's had an actual booth giving out free latte' and coco (wow!!) Barbie was the theme this year sorry no pics But it was interesting to look at. My favorite shows this season were DKNY also her Donna Karen label was a wonderful surprise of very classic pieces, Akiko Ogawa wonderful!! Dieasel all was with and edge get out your jophers there going to be the hottest thing for fall, My new favorite Domenicao Vacco men if you don't know him you should ladies he is Italian need I say more!!! Be side Mikey Roarke and Forest Whitaker and Wife Keisha attended he is a dream, and a great designer. Just as I thought I would get some rest, pre production started for RTR (I am not complaining just in much need of some RNR). Once again I was chosen as key hair for RTR 09, two days before the show I had to make sure the entire room was set up and hair and make-up would have everything we needed for the show taping Feb 21 09.  I was so excited the day before the show, I introduced myself to all the designers. I got the chance to meet Fashion Designer Korto Momolu of Project Runway she was so nice she knew exactly what she wanted, she even thanked me for taking such good care of her girls according to her specifications before they RTR. I must say thank you to Bryon Lairs for trusting my eye since this is his first RTR he and his team allowed us to do our thing. I got to say my favorite had to be MS.Celeste Johnny Designer of Johnny Vincent swim wear( We became fast friends . She allowed me to put a little Culture in her life by allowing me cut off her mohawk and do a boy cut I was inspired by in a Lacoste Fall show 2009  a week earlier. She is going to be huge!!! I keep asking her will she remember the little people when she blows up?? I have to say thank you to my GC family for taking such good care of me during the taping (I never felt so much love)!! and they say New Yorkers are cold and rude??? I have to give a shout out to Wendy a GC alum my girl cast for the movie Notorious and RTR for my dear friend Douglas Says in the plus size segment any of you guys recognize the dress (it's from my 6th year anniversary party a Douglas Says original! Much luv to my NYC team, you guys always "Bring it"this could never be with out you!!! March 7th I am back in NYC at the moment doing a photo shoot can't wait to see the pics there going to be hot!!                                    My year 2008 in a NY minute                                                                              Wow what a year! I do apologize for not taking out anytime to blog,  I know for some of you like me who live for fashion, and don't have that many places to get a fix this maybe all you can get so I promise to take out time to blog from time to time. Moving forward 2008 in retro it was a great year! I started out optimistic as always not really knowing where the year would take me. Fall Fashion Week February 2008. It was freezing in NYC and I did all I could to stay warm, I got the news that I would head up Hair BET's Rip the Runway I was over the moon! (the hard work was starting to pay off) I met Nina Garcia (ELLE magazine and Project Runway) I told her I love her candor (she is always so brutally honest). Back to Houston for a week and then back to NYC for More Magazine's 40 and over Model search and BET's Rip the Runway. Back to Houston for two months in the enter-um Culture Salon was giving the opportunity to do a Prom make over 2008 for the Houston Chronicle and also a blog segment for Kristin2/Go from the Houston Chronicle and her Sex and the City make over http://blog.chron.com/Kristin2go/2008/05, that was great!! I am a huge fanatic of the show (check it out). August rolls around and I am looking forward in getting back to my home away from home NYC in September for Spring 2009 Fashion Week it's my fix( well for somethings). One Monday I get an e-mail from Crystal Wright ( who wrote the book Hair stylist Make-up artist and Fashion Stylist Career Guide) This is the booked that started my career. A really great friend gave me the book over 10years ago, and when people ask me to hook them up I tell  get the book(there is no short cuts to work) Work the plan and plan to work( Period), by the way she will be doing a three day seminar in Houston for all you budding  professionals I will try to keep you posted. OK back to fate the e-mail said they were looking for a Hair stylist and MUA for a job in Denver Tuesday and Thursday summit your work. OK I'm thinking (got to summit the work before I get the day started) I submitted the best work that I had and kind of forgot about it. Wensday I got an e-mail from Crystal Wright saying my work was beautiful and the actress is no other than Ms. Kerry Washington and the gig was in Denver for the Democratic National Convention. (What!!!!) Packed my bags and was in Denver by 1:30 am Thursday. I met Kerry about 7:30AM she was gracious and wonderful I was so blessed for the opportunity (what a great life) I love my job! Four days later I was in NYC for Spring Fashion Week, I attended a few really great parties one was the launch of Andre 3000's  new clothing line called Bill Bixby at Barney's the event kicked of Spring Fashion Week every one in fashion was there it was very NY. Little did I know about there was a hurricane by the name of IKE in the Gulf headed straight for Houston which would cause an three day extended stay in NYC ( all I was thinking was if the salon is gone I am getting a job and I am staying) sorry clients:-) Two weeks without lights at home living on my sisters couch and living out of my suite case, the salon had lights we were very blessed family were fine and Houston was finally getting somewhat back to normal (what ever that is). I came back to NYC to do The Thurgood Marshall fashion show in late October which went well, I met Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty) But the show went to my favorite Crewer Lynwood who showed his line called Trophy Husband it was so powerful it made perfect sense. The guys came out in these African attire, it was something for men but more for lady's (like a Trophy wife). I'm winding down from the show and Audrey ask me if I can do Victoria Secret in Miami early November. I never like to say no to Audrey so I got the dates and flew in the day the show was taping, I must say I felt like a model myself you get the royal treatment it definitely is the show of choice I had a blast. I had not been to the Fountain Bleau Hotel in 10years since then the hotel has been closed, this was their grand re-opening. If you caught the show you know who was there. Here are some of the boards we could not take pics of the girls before the show aired. So that is all you get. What a great year it has been for me professionally the business is growing leaps and bounds I think I need a vacation ( maybe sometime soon) Oh well it is 2009 and it is already on speed dial I am off and running get out the mustard and catch up. WORK THE PLAN AND PLAN TO WORK. Charlene (" I will prepare myself and perhaps my time will come" Abraham Lincoln).

This is just a quick view A few fellow Crewers at the tents .                                                                   The  lady with the steamer is none other that Ms Cassandra Broomsfield who is a great bridal and dress designer, she designed the dress Mrs. Ruby Dee when she won the SAG award for American Gangster this earlier this year!! She is so wonderful inside and out always constant. That's why I love her .                                                   Here are some behind the scene boards from the VC show.                                                                                The pic in the middle is the light representing the twin towers in NYC  during 911 I thought this was  interesting way to remember those who lost their lives.
